Hot Air Ballooning Over Christchurch
Overview
There is no other place in the world, where it is possible to fly from the centre of the city in view of the sun rising out of the ocean toward snow-capped mountains. What a way to start the morning! Concluding with a traditional glass of bubbly and certificate presentation.
You will be picked up from your accomodation in central Christchurch and transported to the launch site (which is dictated by the wind direction and varies). You will spend about half an hour actively participating in helping to prepare the balloon for launch. Then after a flight briefing it's up into the sky where you will fly for approximately one hour.
Take in the magical surroundings as you float gently across the Canterbury plains, with views stretching further than the eye can see. This is an experience you'll want to remember for ever - so don't forget the camera.
After landing you will celebrate with a glass of champagne and everyone will receive a flight certificate.

This flight takes place in the surrounding areas of Christchurch. Transport is provided to and from your accomodation in central Christchurch. Exact meeting point and supplier's details are provided immediately after booking.
Additional Info
- Passengers must be 5 years old and over. Unfortunately you cannot fly if you have had a recent back or hip operation, if you are over 3 months pregnant or confined to a wheelchair.
- We are registered under Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand. The pilots have commercial pilots licences and the crew have specific drivers licences for the vehicles.
- Numbers on the day: The price quoted is for one person. The number of people that will be in the basket with you during your flight ranges from 5 to 22.
- Session length: You need to allow 4 to 5 hours for the total experience, with approximately 1 hour being the flight time. Available everyday, all year round, weather permitting. To be sure to secure your desired date it is advised to book as much in advance as you can, especially between October-April.
- This is a weather related activity. We make a decision on the morning of the flight. All passengers will be provided with a special flight hotline telephone number that they call and it will tell them if the flight is on or cancelled.
Changes and Cancellations Policy
The cancellation policy for this activity is as follows:
- Cancellations notified 30 days or more prior to activity date » full refund is given by activity supplier;
- Cancellations notified 8 days or more (but less than 30 days) prior to activity date » 50% refund is given by activity supplier;
- Cancellations notified less than 8 days prior to activity date » no refund is given by activity supplier.
If you do not attend at the agreed date, time and place you may not be entitled to any refund by the activity supplier.
